Is lysine for herpes?

I have HSV1, genitals, and had for 6 years. Fortunately, this is only my fourth outbreak, but I had surgery, followed by a yeast infection, followed by the epidemic, which seems to be worse my previous recurrences. I started taking 2000 mg of lysine yesterday, and am applying 100% aloe vera gel, and the use of packs ice. How long before I am cured? Lysine not really work in homes today, or simply avoid a recurrence?
